We start the experience with a smooth pick up at your accommodation or from one of the cities designated bus stops. Recommended is to start your experience at the Aurora museum and have us pick you up there before heading out of the light pollution of the city. 

Aurora Reykjavík - Northern Light Centre

A visit to the Aurora Museum is included in the price and must be visited at the day of the tour. It's recommended to start there for general introduction and information about the northern lights as well as getting first hitch of how to adjust your camera settings for the perfect pictures later on in the evening. The Museum is informative and interactive, allowing you to take part in the display. 

Northern lights hunting

Once buckled up and ready to go, our team takes you out to the country side. Our office based northern light team has done all the research prior to the evening so your guide is able to maximise you probability of spotting the lights. Our team not only chooses locations that meet scientology requirements (low temperature, minimal cloud cover and low light pollution) but they also take in account spots where nature and landscape make the show even more spectacular. 

Each night is different and the light display is never the same. Different atomic collision reaction dances above us with slightly different colours, intensities and shape and lasts from ten minuets to several hours. Some nights we stay put at one place and others we move between different sites to hunt them down. 

Regardless of the conditions for each night, your guide will keep you entertained, informed and comfortable. You can guaranty that the team always does everything within it's power to make your northern light hunt a successful hunt and your experience one to remember. 

Hot chocolate and light refreshments

Each hunting tour asks of you to be patient, realistic and spending fair amount of time outside, resisting cold winter conditions while staring at the sky, waiting for the lights and admiring them when lucky. The Bustravel team has prepared for you a special recipe of hot chocolat to warm you up along with light refreshments. Nevertheless it's vital to be well equipped with warm clothing and good shoes. 

In case of no lights

It is actually a rare opportunity in life to witness a natural phenomenon such as the Northern Lights, one that can not be taken for granted, despite having all the requirements in your favour. The northern lights are part of nature and will not be manually turned on or off. In case of you not being lucky enough to see them during your tour, we offer you to reschedule for free to our Classic Northern Lights Bus Tour. Details of how to rebook in case of no lights will be supplied by the guide. The offer for rebooking is valid for three years from the date of your tour departure.

At the end of the night we return you back to Reykjavík at your location of choice and hope you had an amazing night. 

Please note that the duration of the tour is normally 3-4 hours but can vary in length depending on weather conditions on the evening.
